HALFTIME WORDMARK
HALFTIME is a behind the scenes sports publication magazine that explores the passion and precision that comes with creating a stellar marching band performance
Adjectives: Dynamic, Expressive, Passionate, Elegant, Strategic, Blazing
TYPEFACE EXPLORATION
To communicate swift movements of marchers on a football field, I explored typefaces that had a smooth curve languages with hints of sharp terminals. To the audience, bands move smoothly across a field, but in drill there are several quick transitions. Communicating both of these elements into the word mark will show expression, yet the strategy behind every step.

"Behind the Scenes" element that's not always seen
On all of the letterforms, I added these sharper edges to have the overall curve language communicate the small, quick transitions that happen throughout an entire performance. Even if the audience can't see it from a distance, the marchers know each and every step that goes into an effortless direction change.
WORDMARK PROCESS GIF:
All of the sketches combined into a GIF shows the various typefaces and explorations that I went through in order to end up with the final word mark for the publication.
BASE TYPFACE vs FINAL WORDMARK
Biggest changes included opening the tracking and sharpening the terminals on all the serifs to make a smooth, yet quick curve language.
PUBLICATION DESIGN
This part of the project focuses on organizing the publication’s content through type hierarchy and layout systems, creating flexible design standards that communicate importance clearly. As mentioned previously, HALFTIME is a behind the scenes look that explores the passion and precision that comes with creating a stellar marching band performance.
IMAGE RESEARCH
When browsing my old high school's marching band galleries, I wanted to find images that showed passion, performance, and skill. This would help to captivate that emotional feel behind a performance.
